You're not alone

~6 in 10

adults in Ireland are living with overweight or obesity.

living with overweight or obesity

Only 68% of people living with obesity report good or very good sleep quality, compared to 75% of those with a normal BMI.

It's a health condition, not a willpower problem. The World Health Organization describes obesity as a chronic, relapsing disease with many causes.

Your weight can affect your whole health. A higher BMI is linked to heart disease, type 2 diabetes and other conditions - managing it lowers that risk.

Small steps add up. Managing weight is about more than a number on the scales - it's energy, sleep, confidence and long-term health.

The closed-loop programme

How My Healthy Weight works

Everything stays between you, your reviewing doctor and your local pharmacy - the same pharmacy from your first conversation to your ongoing support.

Start in the pharmacy, or right here.

Find your local participating pharmacy and speak to a member of your pharmacy team in confidence about your weight. They'll help you get started. Alternatively, you can start right here.

A quick, online consultation

Complete a short, secure online consultation with webdoctor.ie - quick and private.

A doctor reviews your answers

An Irish-registered doctor reviews your consultation - a real person, not an algorithm - to see if the programme is suitable.

Prescription goes to your pharmacy

If you're a suitable fit for treatment, your prescription is sent straight to participating pharmacy you have chosen.

Your pharmacist checks and dispenses

The team confirms your ID and BMI and only dispenses if the treatment is right for you.

Ongoing support and reviews

Your pharmacist talks you through next steps and reviews your progress regularly.

Benefits of the "closed-loop"?

  • Continuous care: One pharmacy, start to finish
  • Double-checked, not automated: Reviewed by a doctor and your pharmacist
  • Rooted in trust: Begins with the team you already know
  • Support that continues: Regular reviews, not a one-off script

Check your BMI

A simple guide to where you are

BMI (body mass index) is a quick way to check if your weight is in a healthy range for your height. It's the same measure your doctor and pharmacist use as a starting point.

  • Under 18.5 - below the healthy weight range
  • 18.5 to 24.9 - healthy weight range
  • 25 to 29.9 - overweight range
  • 30 and above - obesity range

Ranges based on World Health Organization adult BMI categories. If you'd like to talk it through, your local participating pharmacy is a good place to start.
